A warm welcome await you

St Helen's Church Ipswich has a very relaxed, contemporary and almost laid back feel! We are a church that is bursting with families, children and young people, who seem to have a great time each Sunday.

As a Church, we are looking to grow in our relationships, with one another and in the community that we serve. A range of services and activities are offered within a manageable sized congregation where you can soon get to know people and be known.

About St Helen's Church Ipswich

The Parish Church of St Helen Ipswich is a place where people have worshipped for over 900 years. It was built outside the mediaeval walls in one of the suburbs to serve the people who lived around the road to Woodbridge. Very little remains of the mediaeval church since it was virtually rebuilt in the Victorian period but it is certainly a historic church in Ipswich worth visiting.

If you haven't been to church for a while the All Age Worship is a good one to try.

A message from Rev Sharon Potter - 30th November 2011

I am delighted to tell everyone about my appointment as Rector of the Cockfield Benefice. Cockfield is situated in the West of Suffolk, about 2 miles north of Lavenham and 5 miles south of Bury St Edmunds. I will have 5 parishes under my care, Bradfield St Clare, Bradfield St George with Little Whelnethm, Cockfield, Felsham and Gedding. I will be living at the rectory in Cockfield village. There are just over 2,000 people living in the villages, and am looking forward to getting to know as many of them as I can. I haven’t got a firm date for my licensing as yet, but it is possibly going to be 20th or 21st February 2012, and everyone will be welcome to attend. I will, of course, miss everyone in the benefice and all the support you have given me over the past 5 years.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting - 6th March 2011

At the Annual Parochial Church Meeting of St Helen’s Church Ipswich in March, John Hamilton and Hilary Smith were elected as Churchwardens and Anne Alcock and Rosie Rooke as Representatives to the Deanery Synod in Ipswich. The church have reported that it was a most encouraging meeting and we are still listening to God as a congregation and as a PCC and looking at our aim – to know Christ better and make Him better known, and ways in which to put that into practice in our everyday church life.

Groups @ St Helen's Ipswich

PRAYER BREAKFAST  -  A small group of people meet on Saturday mornings at 8am to enjoy a simple breakfast of rolls and coffee or tea. Discussion of church events and world news flows freely. After about 30 minutes attention is drawn to a word from the Bible and then the group begins to pray. Prayer is made for people who have a particular need, people who have heavy responsibilities and workloads in the benefice, the country's problems - and and everything that needs it. Thanks are also offered especially if a favourable answer has occurred. Come along and you will be made most welcome.

TUESDAY MORNING GROUP - The group is like a "home" or "house" group, but it's base is in the church hall. It meets every week during term time. As the meeting is during the working day most of the members are pensioners. on arrival at 10am members are glad of a cup of tea or coffee and the opportunity to chat. The meeting proper begins at 10.30am with notices, an opening prayer, songs old and new, and time to pray for anyone in need, church life, and world events. most of the time till 12 Noon is spent on a group Bible study. For more information ring 624827.

HOUSE GROUPS - During the week members of the Benefice meet together informally - some weekly and others fortnightly - to have fellowship, study and pray together. Groups meet at different homes on different days and times.
